Magicis a Lit/Adv forum.
That stands for "Literate/Advanced", which means
that we spell our words correctly, use proper
conventions and grammar, and our posts are neat
and easy to read. It also means we enjoy having
them so purdy. xD
Note:
These apply on all boards - including Chatter and other OOC threads, though not quite as strictly (I does enjoy talkin like as loser sometimes too! >-<).
The Five Holy Commandments of Literacy
* Thou shalt not use chatspeak in thy writing.
* Thou shalt not use l33t speak in thy writing.
* Thou shalt use proper conventions when thy typeth.
* Thou shalt use proper grammar in thy sentences
and spell thine words as is correct according to Sir Webster.
* Thou shalt make thine posts easy to read and pretty.
Each of these is explained in detail below.
Thou shalt not use chatspeak in thy writing.
Chatspeak is defined here as any abbreviated language, as per the type used in AIM conversations or in cheap cybersex between fourteen-year-olds. What follows are some examples of what is acceptable and what is not.
BAD
Ranna smiled. "Ur so cute." She said. "Do u think maybe we could talk l8r?" She heard a voice from behind her and frowned. "I g2g. Ttyl?"
GOOD
Ranna smiled. "You're so cute." She said. "Do you think maybe we could talk later?" She heard a voice from behind her and frowned. "I have to go. Maybe we can talk again some other time?"
Thou shalt not use l33t speak in thy writing.
'l33t' speak is defined as any writing using numbers or symbols rather than letters. Letters are there conveniently on your keyboard for you to use. You don't need to write '8175' when you can write 'bits', or '|0|' when you can write 'lol'. Except you can't write 'lol' (at least not in character). But no matter. Moving on to examples.
BAD
"\/\/417, R4|\||\|4!" 43 (4113|) 0u7. "8u7 1 10\/3 y0u!"
GOOD
"Wait, Ranna!" He called. "But I love you!"
Thou shalt use proper conventions when thy typeth.
Conventions refers to capitalization, punctuation and the like. Pretty simple.
BAD

He stared down at his feet, shaking his head. "Ranna, I can't keep it all bottled up any longer," he said.
Thou shalt use proper grammar in thy sentences and
spell thine words as is correct according to Sir Webster.
Proper grammar is defined as using the proper tense all throughout your post, writing sentences that have an action, a subject, etc. - your basic elementary school stuff. As for spelling - well, I put a lot of work into that 'spell check' code, so whenever you post there is a nice 'spell check' button right there underneath 'close all tags.' You can use that, or just type your posts in MS Word before you post them, or even use a good old-fashioned paper dictionary. And if anyone is interested the latest update of Mozilla Firefox (ver. 2.0.0.4) has an automatic spell check built right in. Oh, and another thing: No excuses now, people: SpellChecker.net
BAD
Ranna spins around she had a shokked look on her face. "What do you meen?" She asks brethlesly, feels her heart leep into her throte.
GOOD
Ranna spun around, a shocked look on her face. "What do you mean?" She asked breathlessly. She felt her heart leap into her throat.
Thou shalt make thine posts easy to read and pretty.
This is obviously a matter of tastes, but what we really mean here is this: Please create a new paragraph when a new character is speaking or performing an action, just like in novels; Please space things neatly and organize your speech and such in an aesthetically pleasing manner.

Seilar smiled tentatively, feeling a blush rise to his cheeks. "Well, I've liked you for a...for a long time." he said nervously. "Don't be shy." Imparyth whispered in his ear, and he brushed him away. Then he heard a voice behind him. "What are you saying to her?" Joral asked angrily, fists balled up in rage. "Don't let him scare you," Imparyth warned patiently.
